Breakthrough A charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research and awareness.
Breast Cancer Care Dedicated to providing free help, information and support to women with breast cancer or other breast-related problems as well as to their families, partners and friends.
Bristol Cavcer Help Center Offers a therapy programme for people with cancer and their supporters which is entirely complementary to medical treatment. The programme includes relaxation, visualisation, meditation, counselling, healing, art and music therapy, bodywork and nutritional advice.
Cancerbacup Helps people with cancer, their families and friends live with cancer. Cancer nurses provide information, emotional support and practical advice by telephone or letter.
L home Supports people with lymphoedema and works for better awareness by doctors and for appropriate standards of care.
Lymphoma Association Provides information and emotional support for lymphoma (Hodgkin’s disease and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) patients and their families.
Macmillan cancer relief Supports and develops services to provide specialist care for people with cancer at every stage of their illness. This includes an information line; Macmillan nurses; Macmillan doctors; Macmillan cancer care and information units; financial help through patient grants. Services usually part of the NHS. Information on services available on request. Applications for patient grants through hospital and hospice nurses, social workers and other health care professionals.
Marie Curie Cancer Care Hands-on palliative nursing care is provided during the day and overnight in patient’s homes by a nationwide network of Marie Curie nurses. This is available through the local district nursing service. Also runs eleven Marie Curie Centres – admission by referral from GP or consultant. Both the services are free of charge.
Ovacome A support organisation for women with ovarian cancer. Develops and works with other cancer organisations to provide relevant literature.
The prostate cancer charity Finding ways to improve the care and welfare of people whose lives are affected by prostate cancer. Free information leaflets and telephone helpline manned by counsellors. A network of self-help groups.
Ray Bastle Dedicated to defeating lung cancer through research, prevention and support for those affected.
ACT (Association for Children with Life-threatening or Terminal Conditions and their Families)
Encourages the development of children's palliative care services, promotes models of good care and provides information. There is a charter setting out the standards and facilities which should be available for all affected families.
